Fall 2019 The CR campus welcomed 23 new students in September 2019

  • Students came from India, China, Vietnam, Kenya and the US.
  • Most are in the PDD.GBM program with a few in ECCE,

Electronics Core, and Metal Jewelry Design.

  • The total number of international students studying in CR is

now at 95. Winter 2020 We expect to welcome approximately 25 new students to CR in January.

Community Engagement

  • October 6, 2019 marked the first annual

International Welcome in Campbell River:

  • NIC partnered with IWC, City of Campbell

River, SD72, NIEFS, Strathcona Regional District to welcome newcomers to the Campbell River region.

  • Newcomers were welcomed by the Wei Wai

Kum and Kwaikah First Nations.

  • Approximately 160 community members

attended this event including NIC international students.

Community and Campus Engagement

The NIC Office of Global Engagement has been active this fall hosting a number of different cultural events on campus for all students, staff and community members to participate in. Campbell River international students were also active participants at the Networking and event at both the CR campus and in at Crown Isle in the Comox Valley.

Developed to meet a need for administrative leadership that recognizes traditional governance and structure. The program was developed using a community-based approach at the request of K’omoks First Nation. First cohort of 10 students is currently underway. The certificate is offered in a blended format of online and face to face sessions that rotate between our different campus to integrate unique community involvement.

Introductory Likʷala / Kwak’wala and Nuu-chah-nulth language courses have been

  • ffered in Campbell River from January 2019.

Kwak’wala students celebrate the end of their course with an event at the K’ómoks Big House with demonstrations of what they had learned throughout the course.
