Why is this project proposed?

4

  • Project focuses on improving the mobility and safety of the public through the

reconstruction and widening of the roadway (US 87)

  • Approximately 8,895 vehicles per day travel this roadway each day, which includes

including approximately 10% truck traffic

  • Traffic is projected to increase to nearly 11,570 vehicles per day by 2037
  • Mobility and Safety:

– Deteriorating pavement conditions and increased traffic creates need for reconstruction – Smoother surface increases safety; addition of a designated left-hand turn lane on the north end of project improves mobility and creates safer left-hand turning movements to Golf Course/Civic Center – Adding Americans with Disabilities (ADA) ramps and sidewalks also improves safety and provides an alternate mode of travel – Adding Continuous lighting will improve safety and mobility.
