Abstract

! self-tuning discrete-time Variable Structure Control

(VSC) design where the optimization task of controller parameters is realized by a new Lamarckian evolution approach based

  • n

evolutionary programming combined with a direct search method.

! Simulation results on a continuous stirred tank

reactor, that presents open-loop unstable dynamic and nonlinear behaviors, are shown.

Variable structure control (VSC)

! The theory of VSC was developed for robust control of

uncertain nonlinear systems.

! Continuous-time VSC has been extensively studied and has

been used in various applications.

! Much less is known of discrete-time sliding mode

  • controllers. In practice it is often assumed that the sampling

frequency is sufficiently high to assume that the closed-loop system is continuous-time.

! Another possibility is to design the sliding mode controller

in discrete-time, based on a discrete-time model of the sampled system under control.
