  • Putting up shutters was a cluster mess
  • Difficulty to know when electricity would

return

  • Verizon customers lost service
  • Wrong information about “shelters”
  • A conflicting email from another source

The Call Out of the HRT

  • The time period between the departure of

Venetian management and their return leaves a gap where basically no one is in charge at the Venetian. The HRT fills that gap. This may last as short as 24 hours or as long as circumstances dictate. The success of the HRT is solely contingent on Venetian residents willing to play a role within the plan.

Purpose of the HRT

  • Assess and Evaluate the extent of damage
  • Communicate with residents and with outside

authorities

  • Provide security to the Venetian until our
  • fficial privacy force is back in place
  • Collaborate with management in

communicating with residents regarding hurricane preparation and during the post hurricane period

First Steps ‐ HRT

  • Pre Game Meeting
  • Text message is sent to available HRT members

to assemble at RC

  • Once Hurricane subsides, available HRT

members make a quick assessment of the community to determine damage and resource needed

  • HRT member check on pre‐assigned non

ambulatory resident.

  • HRT assembles and assignments are given

The HRT Roll Out

  • Security Team is the first volunteer group to

be called out. The gate is quickly staffed

  • Depending on the need, the Assessment

Team is called out. Did not happen in Irma

  • Resources and assistance is deployed to areas

as needed.

  • Report provided to VFD who makes an initial

round of our community.

Club ( portico) or a home of a HRT member with a generator

  • HRT supplies, equipment on hand. (

the “go bag.”)

  • HRT makes a quick assessment once the

hurricane has passed to determine the condition of the Venetian and what resources are needed

You’re Staying: First Steps

  • Obtain water and gasoline; save ice; fill up

bathtub

  • Have perishables on hand
  • Tie down projectiles
  • Propane grill and gas stoves work
  • Find “ best place in house”
  • Set refrigerator to highest setting
  • Let someone knowing you are staying
  • Get $$$$$$

staying that you are leaving

Putting it all together

  • There is usually advanced information about a

possible hurricane although the course of the hurricane may change ‐ HAVE A PLAN

  • All employees at the Venetian depart if the

situation warrants such

  • There is NO security at the front entrance
  • The volunteer HRT’s goals are security at the

entrance, assessing damage, deploying available resources and communicating with residents.

  • Communication with residents is a high priority

  • Love thy neighbor if we are faced with a

hurricane

  • Start preparing NOW
  • Clean up streets, sewer openings (post

hurricane)

  • Employ common sense medical assistance
  • Learn how to use your phone hot spot
  • Pitch in to the HRT plan if requested. ( need

updated security team)

Venetian?

  • If I call 911 will they respond during/after a
  • hurricane. If no, what do I do?

recommend we leave if that is our choice.

ground? Who do I call?

  • Realistically, what are the chances of a

mandatory evacuation of our Zone?

  • When the hurricane hits full force, where is the

  • Would there be a chance of a disruption in

natural gas at the Venetian? What about boil water advisories?
