What is a jelly roll? • 2 ½” strips, usually 40 per pkg., showcasing a fabric collection (2.75 yards) • First marketed by Moda in _____. Guess what year!!! • “Jelly Roll” & “Layer Cake” are TMs of United Notions/Moda • Other names: Bali Pops, Tonga Treats, Rollie Pollie, etc.
Beware: All fabric rolls are not the same • Number of strips can vary • Not necessarily 1 strip of 40 fabrics • WOF varies according to manufacturer & even within same fabric line • Cutting accuracy varies • Pinked edges are tricky

Things I have learned • Once you unroll the jelly roll, you can’t make it go back. • Unroll/open a jelly roll outside. Shake it! • Watch your ¼” seam— a jelly roll project is deceptively easy. Seam guides are helpful.
More things I have learned • Check strip width • Don’t save it too long. Use it while you love it! • Buy fabric to go with the jelly roll. Think of borders and binding.
