  3. + The Early Years Foundation Stage Like in Nursery, there are 7 main areas of learning in Reception. Children will have the opportunity to access all of these areas of a daily basis through a play based approach. Maths Personal, Social and Emotional Physical Development Development Communication and Language Literacy Expressive Arts Understanding the World and Design

  4. + The Outside Area ■ Children can access the outside area at all times in Foundation Stage ■ We have covered areas outside, so children can access learning in wet weather ■ Reception wooded and digging area, that we access with the children at certain times in the day ■ Wellingtons and all in one suits are provided for digging area

  5. + A healthy snack ■ A fruit snack is available every day ■ Water is always available

  6. + Lunchtime ■ School meal provided free of charge in Key Stage 1 ■ Packed lunch can be brought from home if parents wish ■ Lunch-time is at 11.30-12.45. Children have lunch and play on the top playground for 20 minutes, then return to their own outside area. ■ Classes have dedicated Mealtime Supervisors Children in KS2 volunteer to help ■

  7. + Communication ■ Notify school office if your child is absent -you can do this via phone or email ■ Notify school if your child has a medical appointment-try to take dental and medical appointments out of school time ■ Make sure the school has an up to date email address so that you always receive the weekly newsletter and other communications ■ Make sure the school has your current mobile number for text messages ■ NB Holidays are not allowed in term time

  8. + Health issues ■ Talk to us about any health issues that affect your child ■ Please keep child off for 48 hours following sickness and/or diarrhoea ■ Asthma or regular medication-fill in form ■ Medication -only prescribed by GP-form from office or on website ■ Head lice

  10. + Uniform ■ You can order sweatshirts, polo-shirts and fleeces from Smiths Schoolwear online or in their shop in Cockfosters ■ Bookbags and P.E. bags can be purchased from the school office ■ PE kits can be left on your child’s peg and taken home every half-term ■ Grey trousers/skirts can be purchased in Asda, Tesco or M&S ■ Sensible black shoes that your child can take off and put on- velcro fastenings are very helpful! ■ Please, please make sure all items of uniform including PE kit are labelled with your child’s name ■ Even shoes need labelling!

  11. + Behaviour ■ Children are encouraged to make the right choices about their behaviour ■ Positive reinforcement is used and good behaviour is rewarded ■ There is a ‘ Good to be Green ’ chart in every classroom

  12. + Learning together in the EYFS ■ Information meetings will be held in the Autumn Term about reading, phonics, fine motor skills and maths ■ We will be using tapestry to share your child’s learning with you

  14. + Breakfast club ■ 7.45-8.55 Monday to Friday ■ Provides a nutritious, sociable, relaxing start to the school day ■ £4.00 per session, £3.50 for siblings (reviewed annually) ■ Children can attend regularly or on an ‘ as and when ’ basis ■ Reception children may attend when they are in school for the first whole week

  15. + After School Club ■ 3.20-5.45 Monday to Friday ■ Provides safe, fun and caring after school club for Monkfrith pupils ■ £9.00 per session (reviewed annually) £7.00 per sibling ■ Children can attend regularly or on an ‘as and when’ basis when spaces are available (places must be booked the previous day or by 9.00 a.m. on the day required) ■ Reception children may attend when they are full-time ■ Enrolment forms and more information available from the office.

  17. + Home Visits A home visit is when your child’s teacher and another member of the Reception team comes to visit you and your child at home. It is an opportunity for your child to meet us in a familiar environment and is a chance for you to ask us any questions you may have.
