How Do Children Develop And Grow?

14

slide-15
SLIDE 15

The Stages of Development

  • All children go through developmental

“stages” and domains

  • Some typical changes in the areas of

speech and language development,

 physical development,  social and emotional development  behaviour

slide-16
SLIDE 16

Sequence Of Stages

  • Development occurs in a sequence
  • f stages that can be predicted.
  • The stages build upon one another

proceeds toward greater complexity.

  • The stages are inter-related.

16

slide-17
SLIDE 17

Children's 's Development

  • Development proceeds at different

rates for different children.

  • Developmental skills build on previous

learning.

  • Development continues throughout life.

17

slide-18
SLIDE 18

Key Pointer 1

  • Early experiences have profound effects on

development and learning.

  • Children develop best when they have secure

relationships.

slide-19
SLIDE 19

Key Pointer 2

Maslow’s theory, ‘The Hierarchy Of Human Needs’, states that lower needs must be met before an individual can strive to meet higher needs.

Physiological  Safety  Love & Belonging  Esteem  Self-Actualisation

slide-20
SLIDE 20

So………,

  • Parents should ensure they provide their

children experiences that shape their  values motivation  approaches to learning  growth and development

  • Parents must ensure their child has a family that is

has strong family relationships

slide-21
SLIDE 21
  • Parents must provide their child with a safe,

supportive and inclusive family environment

  • Parents should teach their child self-regulation

(a child’s ability to manage their behaviour and includes the ability to focus and to control impulses)

  • Parents must help their child develop healthy social

relationships
