Making A College Enrollment Decision
College Enrollment Decisions
+ Why does fit matter?
- Students are most successful at colleges that are a good fit
Talking to Your Student
+ Weigh all the factors + Determine what is most important to you and your student + Wait till you have all the options to decide + Talk with your student about making the best enrollment
decision
College Enrollment Decisions
Balancing the below factors is really important to make sure students are attending an institution where they can successfully graduate at an affordable price. Most Important Decision Factors:
Graduation Rates – the rate of students who start at this school and graduate within 6-years. Financial Aid Gap – the amount of money not covered by a college. Total Debt – the total amount of loans after finishing the degree
College Enrollment Decisions
There are many other important factors that can help students make a good fit institution. These will each be unique to your students interests at school and beyond. Other Important Decision Factors:
- Major– the major options on campus that make students academic
interests
- Social Factors –
- Location – where is the school in location to home
- Size - how big is the school & how big are average class sizes
- Campus Resources – cultural clubs, study abroad opportunities, etc.
+ At College Possible we have tools that help your student
understand their enrollment options.
+ Edquity is a online tool that compares college options
including many of the factors listed previously.
+ Your student will have a 1:1 conference with their high school
coach in the upcoming months about making an enrollment decision.
+ You will also be invited to that conversation and to have
your own with your student over the next several months as financial aid awards arrive.

much more reading and studying outside of class.
+ Professors expect students to have done the reading and
complete assignments on their own.
+ There are fewer reminders and the material covered in class
does not review the reading, but assumes that students have completed it.
+ Professors Host Office Hours to support students with
questions!
Academic Expectations

field, there are many opportunities for most majors.
+ The Career Center & Academic Advisors are there to help!
Choosing a Major
+ Students typically have class for only 3 hours a day + Joining clubs/social groups is a great way to get connected + Finding a campus job can provide part-time work for
