  2. Bldg Codes & Safety Codes Pertaining to Seismic Zone Indian Standards on Earthquake Engineering :- National Standard Body of India, is a Statutory Organization under the  Bureau of Indian Standards Act 1986. Formulation of Indian Standards on different subjects of Engineering through  various Division Councils. The Civil Engineering Division Council :- standardization in the field of Civil  Engineering including A) Structural Engineering, B) Building materials and components, C) Planning Design D) Construction and Maintenance of Civil Engineering Structures E) Construction Practices F) Safety in Building etc. These standards are evolved based on consensus principle through a  network of technical committee comprising representatives from Govt. & Non Govt Organizations. 2

  3. Bldg Codes & Safety Codes Pertaining to Seismic Zone  IS 1893:1984 Criteria for Earthquake Resistant Design of Structures  Deals with earthquake resistant design of structures and is applicable to buildings; elevated structures; bridges; dams etc.  Also gives a map which divides the country into five seismic zones based on the seismic intensity. 3

  4. Bldg Codes & Safety Codes Pertaining to Seismic Zone  IS 1893(Part 1):2002 Criteria for Earthquake Resistant Design of Structures : Part 1 General provisions and Buildings ’ : -  Contains provisions that are general in nature and applicable to all structures.  Also contains provisions that are specific to buildings only.  Covers general principles and design criteria, combinations, design spectrum, main attributes of buildings, dynamic analysis, apart from seismic zoning map and seismic coefficients of important towns, map showing epicenters, map showing tectonic features and lithological map of India. 4

  5. Bldg Codes & Safety Codes Pertaining to Seismic Zone  IS 1893(Part 4):2005 `Criteria for Earthquake Resistant Design of Structures: Part 4 Industrial Structures Including Stack Like Structures  This standard deals with earthquake resistant design of the industrial structures (plant and auxiliary structures) including stack-like structures such as process industries, power plants, textile industries, off-shore structures and marine/port/harbour structures. 5

  6. Bldg Codes & Safety Codes Pertaining to Seismic Zone  IS 4326:1993 Earthquake Resistant Design and Construction of Buildings - Code of Practice  Provides guidance in selection of materials, special features of design and construction for earthquake resistant buildings including masonry construction, timber construction, prefabricated construction etc.  In this standard, it is intended to cover the specified features of design and construction for earthquake resistance of buildings of conventional types.  The general principles to be observed in the construction of such earthquake resistant buildings as specified in this standard are Lightness, Continuity of Construction, avoiding/reinforcing Projecting and suspended parts, Building configuration, strength in various directions, stable foundations, Ductility of structure, Connection to non-structural parts and fire safety of structures. 6

  7. Bldg Codes & Safety Codes Pertaining to Seismic Zone  IS 13827:1993 Improving Earthquak e Resistance of Earthen Buildings – Guidelines  The guidelines covered in this standard deal with the design and construction aspects for improving earthquake resistance of earthen houses, without the use of stabilizers such as lime, cement, asphalt, etc. 7

  8. Bldg Codes & Safety Codes Pertaining to Seismic Zone  IS 13828:1993 Improving Earthquak e Resistance of Low Strength Masonry Buildings – Guidelines  Covers the special features of design and construction for improving earthquake resistance of buildings of low-strength masonry. 8

  9. Bldg Codes & Safety Codes Pertaining to Seismic Zone  IS 13920:1993 Ductile Detailing of Reinforced Concrete Structures Subjected to Seismic Forces – Code of Practice  Covers the requirements for designing and detailing of monolithic reinforced concrete buildings so as to give them adequate toughness and ductility to resist severe earthquake shocks without collapse.  Material specifications are indicated for lateral force resisting elements of frames.  The provisions are also given for detailing of reinforcement in the wall web, boundary elements, coupling beams, around openings, at construction joints, and for the development, splicing and anchorage of reinforcement. 9

  10. Bldg Codes & Safety Codes Pertaining to Seismic Zone  IS 13935:2009 Seismic Evaluation, Repair and Strengthening of Masonry Buildings – Guidelines  Covers the selection of materials and techniques to be used for repair and seismic strengthening of damaged buildings during earthquakes.  Also covers the damageability assessment and retrofitting for upgrading of seismic resistance of existing masonry buildings covered under IS 4326 and IS 13828. 10

  11. Bldg Codes & Safety Codes Pertaining to Seismic Zone  SP 7 : 2016  National Building Code of India 2016 (NBC 2016)  First published -1970 at the instance of Planning Commission  First revised -1983.  Three major amendments were issued to the 1983 version, two in 1987 and the third in 1997. S  Second revision - 2005, to which two amendments were issued in 2015.  The National Building Code of India (NBC), a comprehensive building Code, is a national instrument providing guidelines for regulating the building construction activities across the country.  Serves as a Model Code for adoption by all agencies involved in building construction works be they Govt or Non Govt agencies.  Mainly contains administrative regulations, development control rules and general building requirements; fire safety requirements; stipulations regarding materials, structural design and construction (including safety); building and plumbing services; approach to sustainability; and asset and facility management . 11

  12. Building Bye Laws :  Earlier there are different Dev. Control Regulations in different Urban areas of state  In year 2017 Govt. introduced CGDCR-2017 to avail ease & uniformity in interpretation & appropriated enforcement of Development Control Regulations.  Government has prepared a comprehensive document for smooth implementation & interpretation of Regulations under Gujarat Town Planning & Urban Development Act - 1976  It is called as Comprehensive General Development Control Regulations – 2017, which is finalized wide Govt. Notification Dt.03/10/2019  All urban Development Authorities, Area Development Authorities & Municipal Corporations classified in D1 to D10 categories  Which is divided in three parts Part I :- Procedure Regulations   Part II :- Planning Regulations  Part III :-Performance Regulations 12

  13. Building Bye Laws :  CGDCR – 2017  Part I :- Procedure Regulations (Legal Part)  Definitions  Dev. Permission & B.U. Permission  Responsibilities of Owner &/or Developer & POR  Procedure during construction  Schedules & Forms 13

  14. Building Bye Laws :  CGDCR – 2017  Part II :- Planning Regulations (Enforcement Part)  General Planning & Dev. Regulations  FSI, Margin, Parking, Dev. of Land etc.,  Gamtal & Core Walled city  Other than Gamtal & Core Walled city  Mining, quarrying & Brick Inn  Advertising Display & Communication Infrastructure 14
