Multisystem Inflammatory Syndrome in Children

  • CDC has issued a nationwide health advisory for medical providers to look
  • ut for pediatric multisystem inflammatory syndrome (MIS-C) that is

potentially associated with COVID 19.

  • Symptoms are similar to Kawasaki Disease- inflammation of arteries,

specifically in the heart.

  • CDC guidance for diagnosis by a medical provider includes fever of at least

100.4 degrees for at least 24 hours, inflammation in the body and hospitalization with problems in organs.

  • Parents are encouraged to:
  • Contact the child’s primary care provider if there are any changes in their

child’s health.

  • Watch for persistent fever in children
  • Call your pediatrician right away if your child's temperature repeatedly goes above

104 degrees.

  • If child is less than two years of age, call doctor if the fever lasts more than one day.
  • Older children, call doctor if it lasts more than 2-3 days.
  • Continue with well-child visits and keep up with vaccinations.
