We Are a Team! ...actually several teams per grade. ⚫ Teams consists of three teachers (English, Social Studies, and Science), an administrator, a school counselor, and approx. 125 students ⚫ Eases transition from elementary to middle school ⚫ Allows for coordination of assignments, tests, projects ⚫ Facilitates discussion and development of strategies to meet the needs of the students ⚫ 7th grade teams are Explorers, Phoenix, Seekers, Titans, and LJ United

In addition to teachers and administrators, LJ is... ⚫ School Counselors -Primary goal is to promote the academic, personal, and social growth of all students through self-awareness and respect, building positive relationships with others, and promoting positive learning experiences ⚫ School Counselors provide lessons on topics such as academic planning, and stress reduction through ind. counseling, small-group counseling, and classroom visits ⚫ Social worker , school psychologist , speech pathologist , and school resource officer on staff

  8. We are Responsible! Students take English, Social Studies, Math, Science, and HPE 7 ⚫ Information regarding honors classes will be presented during the academic session of tonight’s program. Students have 2 more spaces for electives and can take one of the following combinations: ⚫ 2 full year electives ⚫ 1 full year elective and 2 semester electives ⚫ 4 semester electives

World Language Options 7 th Grade 8 th grade ⚫ Students who took 1A in 7 th ⚫ Students do not have to take a language in middle grade will take Spanish 1B, school, but if they choose French 1B, or Chinese 1B to start in 7 th grade they (year-long) in 8 th grade, to will take Spanish 1A, equal 1 full credit of French 1A, or Chinese 1A, language for high school which are semester-long ⚫ 8 th grade students can classes choose to begin a language with Spanish 1 or French 1 (year-long) ⚫ Spanish for Fluent Note 1 : Level 1, Part A + B covers the same material as the full-year Level 1 course Speakers is also an option Note 2 : Level 1 is more accelerated than Part A + B Note 3 : Level 1 courses, upon successful completion, earn a high-school credit (counts toward graduation requirement)

Course Selection Process ⚫ Course selection booklets and course selection sheets are distributed by elementary counselors. ⚫ Course selection sheets are due back to the elementary school counselor, with a parent/guardian signature, as soon as possible for review and then sent to LJMS by Feb.28. ⚫ Students are entering their courses into SIS through StudentVue. ⚫ Please sign up for ParentVue to view courses! ⚫ Luther Jackson school visits were held last week, Jan. 14-16.

Sign-up forms will be available on the LJMS website at the end of Feb.. ⚫ Tiger Time – Tuesday, Aug. 18, the week before school starts, 4-7pm. Opportunity to fill out all required forms, buy PE uniform, add money to lunch account, create ParentVue account ⚫ New Student Orientation – Thursday, August 20 before first day of school, 9-11am– Students take the bus to LJ (pick up at nearest elementary school), meet teachers, and walk through schedule ⚫ School starts Tuesday AUGUST 25, 2020!
