KASBAH Built (or more often rebuilt) in traditional style, with walls made of mud and straw, they have been reinforced for modern needs with more solid structures within the walls that are not visible to guests and therefore take nothing away from the authentic feel. The best examples are found in the High Atlas Mountains and in the remote south of the country, in an area known as the “route of 1000 Kasbahs.”. Again, there are a range of styles and standards to be found, from the more humble Kasbah Ait Ben Moro, where you can meet staff who were born in the original Kasbah before it was renovated, to the top end luxury of Dar Ahlam and Richard Branson’s Kasbah Tamadot. RIAD Traditionally, a riad (Riad = garden in Arabic) was a house built for the privacy of a multi-generational family in Morocco. Riads were built tall but narrow, centered around a courtyard or atrium with rooms facing inward. From the outside a riad looks like a blank brick or mud clay wall, a veritable fortress with a heavy door and no outer windows. From the inside, riads are an architectural dream, a magical place with an emphasis on balconies, colourful tiles and indoor gardens. Lemon or
- range trees often grew in the center. These Riads serve today as small hotels and you can fjnd them in Marrakech, Fes and
Essaouira. BIVOUAC They can enjoy magical and unforgettable moments in one night or more in a camp, in the heart of the desert, they will sleep in traditional nomadic tent under the stars. The toilets/showers are located nearby (standard) or in the tent(deluxe); enjoy a sky full of stars, sunrise or sunset on the magnifjcent golden sand dunes of a loss of sight, in the desert.
