An experiment…

  • First Vision Centre was established on June 01, 1993

at Ramnagar, an urban slum in Hyderabad with support from VST Industries.

  • Second centre was established in Chagallu village,

West Godavari in 2002

  • Two centres, one in Bhainsa (Adilabad district) and
  • ther in Wanaparthy (Mahbubnagar district) with

generous support from Sight Savers International in 2003

  • Andhra Pradesh Eye Disease Study (APEDS) 1996 -

2000

  • Prevalence of blindness - 1.84% (1)
  • Moderate visual impairment to be 8.1% (2)
  • Both blindness and visual impairment was higher in

rural areas(1,2)

responsible for 60.3% blindness and uncorrected refractive errors responsible for 87.5% moderate visual impairment(1,2)

  • Approximately 20 - 40% of eyes remain blind post
