It was spent on – 30% hospitals – 24% health professionals – 17% retail drugs – 5% public health – 4% administration – 4% capital investment – 16% all other costs • Public spending 70% & Private 30%

  3. HEALTH CARE EMPLOYMENT • 1.5 million people work in health care or 1 out of 10 Canadians. They are employed as – Nurses (RNs, LPNs, RPNs) largest profession – Physicians second largest profession – Diagnosticians (lab, x-ray, etc) third largest profession – Pharmacists are the fourth largest profession – Many other professional and non-professional groups – The workforce is rapidly aging in most professions – Educating professionals is slow and costly
