Next time you enjoy local seafood at a restaurant—thank a salt marsh! A salt marsh is what you are traveling in now. They are tidally influenced by the revolutions of the moon, also known as lunar cycles. Acre for acre, salt marshes are the most biologically productive ecosystems on Earth. Seafood industries are dependent on salt marshes because more than 75% of fisheries species use salt marshes at some point in their lives. North Carolina is especially dependent on salt marshes for our Blue Crab industry.
