Church of England Vision for Education
Deeply Christian, Serving the Common Good July 2016
Vision for Education
- The Church of England Vision for Education is
built around a core statement of Jesus to give ‘life in all its fullness’ (John 10:10).
- The vision document reflects that Church
school education is about ‘educating the whole person’, what the 1988 Education Reform Act sees as physical and intellectual development united with spiritual, moral, social and cultural development.
Our work with schools in line with the Vision
- Support for school leaders – CoEPQH,
Leadership Networks, Mentor support, Training for aspiring leaders in Church schools, RE scheme of work, SIAMS
- Support for teachers – Learn Teach Lead RE
networks, Newly Qualified Teacher support, adviser visits as part of the Service Level Agreement, Training on Collective Worship and RE, Understanding Christianity
- Support for Governors and Trustees
Our work with Church schools
Structures
- 29 academies across the Diocese
- 8 schools with conditional consent to convert or
pending
- 10 Multi Academy Trusts (MATS) with 1 more in the

- The DBE’s strategic vision is to continue to promote
mixed MATS across the Diocese within excepted governance arrangements for Church academies
- 88 maintained schools – majority are voluntary
controlled
- Mixed system – maintained and academies
Our work with Church schools
Structures

joining together in partnerships – Federations
- Church schools working in partnership with each other
and with community school partners
- Schools increasingly look to the Diocese
for support
Our work with 125 Church schools
