  • Prevent is a cross Government programme with local authorities

working with to deliver local strategies

  • There are 3 distinct strands to Prevent; ideology, individuals,

institutions.

  • Prevent is based on having conversations with trusted colleagues and

3) Prevent & Schools

Existing work schools deliver that build resilience to extremism:

  • Safeguarding systems;
  • Promote community cohesion,

equalities & well being;

  • Anti-bullying policies
  • Improving attainment;
  • Promote wider skills

development;

  • Encourage active citizenship &

pupil voice;

  • Link with families & community

groups.

Schools are important because they can play a vital role in preparing young people to challenge extremism and the ideology of terrorism and effectively rebut those who are apologists for it….. Awareness of Prevent and the risks it is intended to address are both

  • vital. Staff can help to identify, and to

refer to the relevant agencies, children whose behaviour suggests that they are being drawn into terrorism or extremism.
