Productions

  • We produce 5 main-stage

productions per year in the Gillespy Theatre

  • At least one Musical Theatre

Production per year

  • All students are eligible to

audition for college productions regardless of major.

  • Auditions are also open to the

public (non-students, community members, professionals).

  • Auditions are generally held at

the beginning of September for fall, November for Spring and then in April for the Summer Production.

PRODUCTIONS

  • Each production has a professional

director, set designer, lighting designer, costume designer, sound designer, and carpenter. Additionally, musicals have a musical director and choreographer.

  • These professionals often come from

within the college, but are also hired from the professional community here in Daytona and from Orlando- current show has UCF faculty designer, Seabreeze HS faculty as Musical Director, UCF grad student designer, Musicians from Athens Theatre in Deland.

  • All tickets to productions are FREE to

PRODUCTIONS

  • DSC Cosmetology

Department often provides hair and make-up services to actors backstage.

  • Students may receive ONE

ELECTIVE CREDIT (TPP2190 ) for participation in production—whether they are onstage or assisting in some capacity with the technical elements backstage.

  • Dramatic Appreciation—THE 1000
  • An intro to theatre covering a broad spectrum of topics

including theatre history, theatre production, acting, design elements, casting, and career choices.

  • This course is a Gordon Rule offering counting towards

student humanities requirement.

  • Students are required to see at least ONE live theatre

performance

  • Final project includes a presentation on your choice:

acting, set design, costume design or casting—of one

  • f the plays we cover during the semester.
  • Also offered online every semester.

  • Intro to acting- learn the fundamentals of theatre

technique

  • Learn through theatre games and exercises
  • Exploration of self and focus on release of body

tension (combat stage fright!)

  • Culminates in a scene showcase – one night at

the end of the term in the Gillespy theatre (this is the final for the course).

  • A study of the basic principles of set design,

stage carpentry and props construction, with emphasis on performance construction/support

  • Directing, Musical Theatre Performance

  • New Course Offering – Partnership between

theatre and TV Production departments

  • RTV 2600 – Acting for the Lens and Camera
  • This course introduces students to blocking and

performance techniques for live and taped television productions

  • Will be held at the DSC TV Studio
  • Students will have the opportunity to perform on

camera and record their own “reel” of performance clips.

  • Creative Improvisation: Innovation for Theatre

and the Real World: TPP 2120

  • Through acting exercises in a safe, open

environment students will discover and develop their creative and authentic responses to situations on and off stage. Using relaxation techniques, and a variety of character-based improvisation games, they will achieve greater self-confidence, freedom of expression and an ability to adapt, take risks, and collaborate.
