TA Introductions

What is FSI?

• Subprogram of Health and Medical Apprenticeship Program

(HMAP)

• Physician shadowing program

○ 6-8 hours/week for total of 60 hours over the course of the semester

• 2-hour weekly discussion section
• Other mandatory events over the course of the semester (on

Thursday nights)

○ Intern Social, Midsemester Event, Panel Discussion, Preceptor Reception

• 3 units P/NP

Shadowing

• Preceptors from different specialties

○ Cardiology, Family Medicine, Neurosurgery, Radiation Oncology, Pediatrics, Endocrinology, Gastroenterology, Orthopedic Surgery, Nephrology, Pediatric Surgery, etc.

• Located in SF, San Pablo, Berkeley, Emeryville, Oakland (CHO),

etc.

• Matched based on preferences and schedule
• Recommended to have large gaps in schedule (5-6 hours)

rather than multiple short gaps for shadowing

Discussion Section

• Two TAs per section, each section typically 4-6 interns
• Topics discussing philosophy and ethics of medicine and

public health

○ Reproductive Health, Social Determinants of Health, Disabilities, Mental Health, End of Life Care, Medical Malpractice, Cultural Competency, etc.

• Section times:

○ Tuesdays 4-6pm and 6-8pm ○ Wednesday 4-6pm and 6-8pm

Application

• Online application (Google form) due by Nov. 1

by 11:59pm

• If selected for interview, interviews on Sunday,
• Nov. 24.
