JOREP ¡Dataset ¡and ¡its ¡Implementa2on ¡ JOREP ¡2009 ¡covers ¡transna2onal ¡research ¡ programmes ¡funded ¡by ¡the ¡EU ¡and ¡by ¡Member ¡ states ¡in ¡eleven ¡European ¡countries. ¡It ¡is ¡going ¡to ¡be ¡opened ¡in ¡Autumn ¡2015 ¡ ¡ Actually ¡the ¡JOREP ¡dataset ¡was ¡enlarged ¡and ¡revised; ¡it ¡includes ¡(baseline ¡2013-­‑2014) ¡ • the ¡EU ¡transna2onal ¡research ¡programmes ¡in ¡the ¡EU28 ¡countries, ¡plus ¡CH ¡and ¡NO ¡(113 ¡ programmes) ¡ • the ¡most ¡relevant ¡(size ¡of ¡funding) ¡transna2onal ¡programmes ¡decided ¡and ¡funded ¡at ¡ na2onal ¡level ¡in ¡the ¡EU28, ¡plus ¡CH ¡and ¡NO ¡(Nord ¡forsk, ¡D-­‑A-­‑CH, ¡LAA) ¡ ¡ • the ¡funding ¡agencies ¡related ¡to ¡the ¡transna2onal ¡programmes ¡(211) ¡ ¡ The ¡new ¡version ¡is ¡supposed ¡to ¡be ¡open ¡in ¡June ¡2016 ¡ ¡ JOREP ¡includes ¡descriptors ¡of ¡programmes ¡and ¡funding ¡agencies ¡organiza2onal ¡ characteris2cs. ¡ ¡ ¡ ¡ 6 6 6

Represen2ng ¡Network ¡of ¡collabora2ons ¡ JOREP ¡ allows ¡ studying ¡ the ¡ collabora2on ¡ networks ¡ of ¡ the ¡ countries ¡ (with ¡ network ¡ analysis ¡technique), ¡ ¡ One ¡example ¡for ¡ERA-­‑net ¡(FP6) ¡and ¡bilateral ¡programs. ¡We ¡have ¡focused ¡on ¡the ¡ • rela2onship ¡ of ¡ eleven ¡ JOREP ¡ countries ¡ and ¡ the ¡ rela2onship ¡ with ¡ the ¡ other ¡ countries ¡within ¡the ¡program. ¡ ¡ • ¡Substan2al ¡differen2a2on ¡between ¡ERA-­‑net ¡programs ¡and ¡bilateral ¡programs ¡as ¡to ¡ the ¡network ¡structure ¡of ¡research. ¡ • ¡Some ¡countries ¡play ¡a ¡prominent ¡role ¡in ¡one ¡program ¡and ¡a ¡marginal ¡one ¡in ¡the ¡ other ¡(the ¡UK ¡and ¡Poland ¡for ¡example). ¡ ¡ • ¡The ¡high ¡number ¡of ¡connec2ons ¡of ¡a ¡node ¡does ¡not ¡always ¡correspond ¡with ¡the ¡ amount ¡of ¡funding ¡(the ¡UK, ¡Italy ¡and ¡Poland ¡for ¡example). ¡Italy ¡has ¡a ¡network ¡that ¡is ¡ smaller ¡than ¡the ¡UK, ¡but ¡with ¡more ¡funding. ¡One ¡possible ¡explana2on ¡is ¡that ¡Italy ¡has ¡ a ¡greater ¡par2cipa2on ¡in ¡programmes ¡where ¡the ¡cost ¡of ¡research ¡ac2vity ¡is ¡higher ¡ than ¡other ¡fields. ¡ 9 9 9
