Graphic Arts began its summer design program four years ago. Every year the program grows and fills up faster. We have seen almost forty students during the past four years. Twelve of these students are now at Cape Cod Tech. 2016 is the first year for a school wide summer program.

“I feel that the Graphic Arts class is especially important today more so than it's ever been. As an art school we make it our business to know what the market is like. A 2013 study shows there were 25 million careers in design/art, and those numbers are projected to go up by 2020.”

Articulation Agreements:

Bristol Community College Cape Cod Community College Center For Digital Arts New England Institute of Technology

Articulation agreements allow our students to get college credit for what they do in high school. These credits not only save students money, but also give them a head start on their classes so they can graduate earlier. This allows them to begin working sooner rather than later with less debt.

slide-26
SLIDE 26

ONLINE EDUCATION

We see a day when a student who is at Barnstable, DY, Monomoy, etc. could be taking Graphic Arts at Cape Cod Tech with a program

  • nline.

The technology allows for this to be easily

  • attainable. Students could join in on critiques

using various, widespread and free video conference technology This would mean that CCT’s enrollment could soar past 650 without adding any extra stress to the physical space.

slide-27
SLIDE 27

ONLINE PRINTING

The idea of setting up an online print shop for local towns, schools, and business partners would allow them to order, design, and print. Students would be in charge of order fulfillment, customer service, and machine maintenance. This would not only save our sending districts money, it would provide income to our shop and school.

slide-28
SLIDE 28

FINE ARTS

It is important that a graphic designer has an understanding of all the elements of art and

  • design. The most effective way to do that is to

incorporate more of the fine arts now being

  • ffered at CCT.

Wrapping fine arts into the program, and being closer in the new building would allow graphics students to be more rounded in their artistic skills.

slide-29
SLIDE 29

INTERNSHIP

We would like to set up a program very similar to what many colleges have today. Students would be required to complete a designated number of hours at an internship or co-op. These hours could be completed during the school year/day - similar to what students do when on co-op. Or hours could be completed on their own time with proper documentation.

“According to the Huffington Post, graphic design is among the top 10 art jobs in highest demand in the future. Students who study graphic arts have the potential to become gainfully employed in the fields of electronic media, television graphics, website design, advertisement, and print.”
