The City of Nashville has two 90 MGD water treatment plants, K. R. Harrington Water Treatment Plant (located here in Donelson) and the Omohundro Water Treatment Plant (located across the Cumberland River from Shelby Park). Both are conventional treatment plants and use the Cumberland River for the raw water source. Both treatment plants are connected to the distribution system low which supplies water to customers in the lower elevations of the City. As shown on the map, all the blue lines are part of the distribution system low. Booster Stations (Pump Stations) supply water to the higher elevations of the distribution system from system low. With the current growth in the Davidson County, MWS is continuously upgrading and expanding the distribution system for improved efficiency in supplying water to the

  • customers. MWS maintains a dynamic hydraulic model of the distribution system which

provides a method to predict and define hydraulic issues in the system based on usage and system pressures. The Metro Water Distribution System Master Plan and Hydraulic Modeling identified the need for this project prior to the 2010 flood. Recent issues in the distribution system has increased the need for this water line project. We know most of the Donelson / Hermitage residents have seen some of the system’s issues. 3

Reliability is “the ability of the system to consistently perform its required mission, on demand and without degradation or failure”. For Water Distribution Systems one of the ways we increase reliability is to design redundancy. 5
