The main consequences:

  • Relentless downward pressure on prices;
  • Farmers, in many cases, do not cover production

costs;

  • Insufficient investment in farm business;
  • Farmers abandoning sector and activity;
  • Risk for the consumer of a reduced choice and

flexibility of supply.
