History of DZI

Milestones from its foundation to date 1946 1969

The government decided to merge all 19 Bulgarian insurance companies and 11 branches of foreign insurers in one state-

  • wned company.

A new law was adopted for the governance of

  • DZI. It simplified the

management of the company and ensured its greater autonomy. Bulgaria began transition to a market

  • economy. More than

100 insurance companies were founded, of which about 40 maintained active operations.

1989 1996

In September 1996 the new insurance law prohibited the simultaneous sale of life insurance policies and general insurance

  • products. DZI split into

two – DZI General Insurance JSC and DZI JSC.

2002

August 3, 2007: KBC received the necessary regulatory approvals and successfully completed the acquisition of DZI. The company was privatized on August 27, 2002, when the investment company Contract Sofia Ltd. bought the controlling stake.
