Directives

WEEE Waste Electrical & Electronic Equipment Purpose: To prevent equipment ending up in landfills. Method: Increasing percentages of the weight of the equipment should be disposed of responsibly by European countries. RoHS Restriction of Hazardous Substances Purpose: Reducing hazardous substances in new equipment. Method: Increasingly banning of such substances. REACH Registration, Evaluation, Authorisation and Restriction of Chemicals Purpose: Increase the health of people and protect the environment through rapid identification of chemical properties of substances. Method: Collect and publish information on chemicals and their consequences for man and environment.

Records and Reporting

Records

  • All disposal actions will be recorded in a digital file which contains all

details including considerations made. The e-waste manager is responsible for the archiving of these records. Reporting Each year, the E-waste manager will draw up a report in which at least the following aspects are highlighted:

  • Overview of all equipment disposed that year and details on how this

was done.

  • Overview of donated equipment returned for recycling
  • Overview of donated equipment to a third party which is still in use.

Selecting a recycle partner

  • Small recycle companies proved too un transparent
  • Decided that only large, International, organisations were to be reliable
  • Used Gartner ITAD (IT Asset Disposition) to get a better overview of the

market

  • Will negotiate with a large organisations which has local representations
  • Will select for an initial period of 1 year
