  1. St George & St James Anglican Parish Borough of Queenscliffe Diocese of Melbourne Vision Enlivened by the mystery which is Christ in us In solidarity with communities near and far We will make the Word of God fully known Drawn from Colossians 1.24-27 The Presentation of Christ in the Temple (Transferred from Saturday Feb 2 nd .) The weekly pew sheet and Sunday reading sheet are available as PDF documents on both our website www.queensclifflonsdaleanglican.org and Facebook page at St George’s Queenscliff & St James’ Point Lonsdale . Sunday February 3 rd 2019 The feast of the Presentation of Christ in the Temple is also known by other names – the Purification of the Blessed Virgin Mary and Candlemas. Luke compresses many ideas into the visit of Mary and Joseph to the temple with their baby son; the statutory purification of the mother, the symbolic ransom of the first born and the dedication of a child to the Lord’s service. They offer the sacrifice prescribed for those who are unable to afford a lamb (a pair of turtle-doves or two young pigeons), however, they have brought the Lamb of God with them. Before the birth of Jesus, Mary and Joseph received a message that Jesus is the son of the Most High and he will save his people from sin. In today’s Gospel, Simeon now makes his entry, his greeting confirming that the child is a sign of salvation. Simeon and Anna were two venerable elderly people dedicated to prayer and fasting and so their strong religious spirit rendered them able to recognize the Messiah. Simeon and Anna reminded us that prayer and examination are not just a waste of time. In fact, our time could not be better spent than in prayer. Through our prayer and penance, like Simeon and Anna, the breath of the Spirit will be opened. So as a baptised Christian let us summit our time in praying for one another. As you all are already doing so by praying for me and each other throughout this year, let us keep that pattern to pray for one another. A very special thanks to the community of St George’s and St James’ for welcoming, supporting, encouraging, and helping me to learn and form who I am in my role of a priest. Without your prayers I would not be who I am as I now stand in front of you. You are all fabulous guiders, amazing supporters and awesome prayerful people. THANK YOU for everything. From Mother Heidin, We acknowledge with gratitude that we worship on the traditional lands of the Wathaurong people of the Kulin nation and we acknowledge and pay our respect to their elders past and present
