Fronted adverbials are adverbial words or phrases at the beginning of a sentence, which are used to describe the action (verb) that follows. Write, on your whiteboard, the simple sentence: I went to the zoo.

  • Come up with at least 3 fronted adverbials.
  • Read the new sentence aloud to your partner, using physical punctuation

to show where the comma is.

Challenge: Try using a fronted adverbial from each of the different columns.
