  1. Smart Storage , The Missing Piece Presented by Alpha ESS Co., Ltd. James Xu, 28 April 2016

  2. Limitations on Existing Energy Generation  Non-environmental friendly of fossil and nuclear energy  Uncertainty in availability and quality of solar power  Unpredictable and low performance efficiency of wind power  Unsustainable and low calorific value of biomass  Decreasing ROI rate due to Feed-in-Tariff being cut

  3. Energy Revolution Smart Grid Wind Energy Wind Energy Future of Increasing Energy Solar Energy Solar Energy Energy energy supply Transformation Efficiency Biogas Energy Biogas Energy Energy Storage

  4. Why Storage is a Missing Piece? Multi-Function and Trends  Maximize self-consumption  Uninterrupted power supply (UPS) in case of grid outage  Maximized profit – peak/off-peak management  Off-grid function  Microgrid  Electric vehicle and charging stations

  5. PV Self-consumption Morning Afternoon Energy produced by the PV generation is used When the batteries are fully charged and to optimize self-consumption; excess energy is AlphaESS system already meets your self- used to recharge the batteries. consumption requirements; excess energy is fed into the utility grid. Evening Night Once the sun has set, AlphaESS system At night, Alpha system can obtain off-peak automatically switches to energy from batteries. electricity from the grid and charge into battery Since the system is grid connected, the grid and for customers to use during the peak hours next the system will supply the load consistently morning together. If the load cannot be supplied solely by system, the electricity is then obtained from the utility grid.

  6. UPS Function ① When the grid fails, system can switch to off-grid mode automatically and supply the loads. ② The system can also be set as UPS priority. In this case, the system will charge the battery first before supply the electricity to the load and grid. ③ In order to fulfill different customer requirements, the system can also set a UPS reserved capacity under the self-consumption logic.

  7. Maximized Profit Peak and Off-peak Management ① Buy electricity and charge battery off-peak at the lowest price ① Feed in electricity to grid at the highest tariff

  8. Off-grid Function ① Places with no accessibility to the public grid: Off-grid system can be used in the remote places where there is no access to the public grid. ② Generator: The system can be connected to the generator. When there is not enough electricity supply from battery and PV, system can switch automatically to the generator to supply the loads and charge the battery. When the battery is full, the generator becomes standby. The system is able to work constantly 24/7 and provide power to remote rural settlements with no grid connection.

  9. Microgrid A collection of distributed energy systems communication and acting like a virtual power plant.  Being able to disconnect to centralized grid  Being applicable to low power area with no access to public grid, e.g. Tibet  Creating an energy community, to be tailored to local resources which are in abundance.

  10. Electric Vehicle and Charging Stations  PV energy produced in the day is stored and can charge car at night.  EV can be charged at charging stations with PV generation and energy storage on high way after dark or in winter.  The excess electricity of EV charging point could be fed into grid.  EV charging points could be networked as a virtual power plants and transferred to low storage charging point.

  11. Germany – A Front-Runner  More than 1.5 million renewable power plants have been installed over the past 25 years.  27 percent of the electricity consumed produced from renewables.  By 2050, the emission of greenhouse gases to be reduced by 80% - 95%. To achieve this, energy consumption will be reduced by 50 percent and at least 80% of electricity will come from renewable.  Around 10,000 solar battery systems being installed in German households in 2014 alone. Experts expect the market to expand tenfold by 2018. Energy Revolution On the Way……
