  2. A bit of background Big Lottery Fund is a non-departmental public body responsible for distributing • funds raised by the National Lottery for "good causes“. It reports into DCMS • • Of every £2 spent on a Lottery ticket 56p goes to the "good causes". • The Big Lottery Fund is the largest Lottery distributor , responsible for distributing 40% cent of funds raised for "good causes" • Big Lottery Fund has an income of about £600 million a year. BLF17_37 • Since 2004 it has awarded over £6.2 billion to more than 130,000 projects across the UK www.biglotteryfund.org.uk

What we look for in organisations that we support  People Led To ensure the people they work with are meaningfully involved in the development, design & delivery of the project.  Strengths based They support people & communities to build on the knowledge, skills and experience they already have to make the changes they want.  Connected They demonstrate a good understanding of other activities & services in the community & can show how the project will complement these. www.biglotteryfund.org.uk

Our three Funding offers Under £10,000 National Lottery Awards for All is our most popular funding stream, and it provides a quick and simple way to get small Lottery grants of between £300 and £10,000. Over £10,000 We provide long-term support to single organisations through Reaching Communities , to help communities take action on the issues that matter to them. We support organisations to work together through our Partnerships funding, inspiring joint action that goes beyond what any single organisation can achieve alone. 7

Our funding priorities Stronger relationships We support ideas that bring people together, strengthening relationships in and across communities Shared and sustainable places and spaces We support people to shape and sustain the places that matter to them, like a park, community centre or online network Early action to prevent problems and tackle disadvantage We support activity that empowers people to fulfil their potential, working to address problems at the earliest possible stage 8

  9. What we want to see from you You developed your idea by involving the people who will benefit We want to see that you’ve spoken to people and listened to what they have to say. You’ll support what’s already working well Use your knowledge of the skills and experience people already have and explore how you can build on it. You can test new approaches We’re interested in your original and creative ideas for achieving your mission, and are keen to share what you learn with others. You understand the existing activities and services that do similar work Have you spoken to other groups? What can you learn from them, and how can you contribute to what they already do? You’re committed to equalities and the environment We’ll want to know about your equalities policy and your environmental policy if we’re interested in your idea. 9

Tell us your • We’ll then get in touch to find out more about your idea and ask 6 key pieces of information. idea • If your idea is accepted, we'll ask you to submit a full proposal. • A Funding Officer will help you put your proposal together and give guidance on the areas that you need to Submit a full cover. proposal • If you’re successful, we’ll work with you to identify the right level of support throughout the duration of your grant. • If you’re unsuccessful, a Funding Officer letting you know the decision and offer relevant feedback.
