Mission critical teams

  • Teams that most directly impact:

– Articulating compelling vision and clear priorities – Creating the structures and systems – Delivering the organization’s current value – Anticipating the future – Connecting between the “white spaces”

  • Different teams may be critical at different

phases of organizational growth

  • Some critical teams may not yet exist

NASA Engineering team

  • This team writes the algorithms that guide millions of

dollars of rockets… which sometimes return back to earth

  • Outcome success measured crudely as explosion vs.

survival is quite good

  • The team knows that their code is built on top of ancient

programming, inefficient and full of workarounds

  • They are not in crisis, but seeking continuous

improvement
