  1. Reflecting on change - how it affects us and others.

  2. What do you notice about the mood created here?

  3. Saying goodbye can be difficult. Do you think Jemmy would be apprehensive about the journey ahead of him? Why/Why not? Do you think the visitors learned anything from Jemmy? Will they miss him?

  4. Look at the colour choices here. How does it help to create an atmosphere?

  5. How is Jemmy feeling? Take a moment to think about how you will feel when we are all back at school together. Like Jemmy, we will return to our familiar surroundings ready to tell stories of our time apart. What adventures and experiences will you speak about? What is the first thing you think Jemmy would share about his experiences?

  6. Your task is to write a poem. Create a poem based on the things you would miss if you moved to a new country like Jemmy Button. Top tips:  Paint a rich picture with your words  Use your senses to enhance the description  Include vocabulary to show your feelings  Think about other poetic devices we have learnt about this year – alliteration, similes, metaphors, onomatopoeia, repetition.  Read your poem aloud – ask someone to listen to it or record yourself

  7. Here is an example poem Jemmy my Button Fish rise splashing at sunset In the depths of the clear water rippling Birds chirping as they glide overhead Sticky leaves sprouting And the chatter of men persuading All the while the boy is wondering Should I go or should I stay Monkeys howling hearts pumping It all comes down to what I choose today Waterfall smashing against the rocks Whispering waters and wild noises Animals grrrrrrrring as they swing from the trees Loud footsteps of angry men All the while the boy is wondering Branches snapping underfoot Should I go or should I stay Crunching cocoa beans as they charged It all comes down to what I choose today All the while the boy is wondering They paid a button to his mum and dad Should I go or should I stay To take their precious boy away It all comes down to what I choose today All the while the boy is wondering Should I go or should I stay It all comes down to what I choose today The dying echoes of monkeys howling One huge tear dropping from his eye And the men saying hooray!
