OCP Guides Development of Housing

Council’s key growth management tool:

  • Data informed OCP and its central theme
  • Over 3,000 inputs about housing
  • ~45% of all input in the process
  • A range of policies to enable ~5,000 units by 2041
  • ~500 infill units (e.g., duplex, coach house)
  • ~1,000 ground-oriented units (e.g., row/townhomes)
  • ~3,500 apartment units
  • 20% of all units expected to be rental

This housing is enabled through Council decisions about development applications

  • New Provincial legislation passed on May 14, 2018
  • Brought into force through enabling regulation on April 2019

  • Must be presented to Council and published by April 2022
