Key Findings from the Assessment of Rainwater Reuse Systems

  • No financial return directly to residents who

invest in reuse systems

  • Rainwater reuse systems used solely for

reducing potable water consumption are uneconomic

  • Tanks will be empty during droughts, so will

not significantly reduce peak water demand

slide-7
SLIDE 7

Key Findings from the Assessment of Grey-water Reuse Systems

  • No financial return directly to residents who

invest in grey-water reuse systems

  • Ministry of Health: Does not support grey-

water reuse in homes because of health risks

slide-8

Conclusions

  • Retaining the part of Rule 25.13.4.5a relating to

water supply and wastewater would be inequitable and unfair

  • Requiring rain water or grey water reuse systems

is not an efficient or effective method to achieve the objectives of the plan

  • This part of the rule should be deleted

Rainwater and grey-water reuse systems

  • Remain in definition of “water sensitive

techniques” (Vol 2, s1.1.2)

  • Could be required by a Water Impact

Assessment or Integrated Catchment Management Plan where justified

  • Rain tanks are possible water sensitive

technique for stormwater (25.13.4.5a)
