Fundamentally water treatment consists of five basic processes: 1. Solids separation to remove fish faeces and waste feed; 2. Biological filtration to convert toxic ammonia-nitrogen to less toxic nitrate; 3. Carbon dioxide removal; and 4. Oxygen injection into the water. 5. Sterilisation to prevent disease.
