  1. Press Release 13 June 2011 The TongKang Colonial Bar & Restaurant, proudly brought to you by the Creative Eateries Group, presents experiential dining on the last surviving pair of tongkangs (light boats for carrying goods) in Singapore. The two tongkangs, which used to ply the Singapore River in the 1960s are true bastions of Singapore’s rich maritime heritage, and have recently been returned to their former glory after receiving careful restoration amounting to over a million dollars. The first of these two treasured tongkangs houses the TongKang Gin Bar, the first bar of its kind in Singapore to feature an extensive slew of gin-based drinks using classic brands as well as boutique, vintage and premium gins of the “New Gin Movement” such as Bulldog, Blackwood’s and No. 209. At the TongKang Gin Bar, drinks will be served with accompaniments of Kacang Puteh , an assortment of roasted nuts that were ubiquitously sold by Indian immigrants in the early days of Singapore. The TongKang Colonial Restaurant on the second boat is where diners will enjoy exquisite colonial cuisine aboard this gem of a historic vessel. This distinctive cuisine has evolved from the potpourri of influences in Singapore’s earlier days when tongkangs were commonplace. The restaurant’s lunch menu, features colonial-inspired items like the Old English Lamb & Kidney Pie and hearty favourites like Oxtail Stew with Potatoes & Carrots. In the lazy afternoons, High Tea is served on tiered tea stands, presenting guests with an indulgence of flavoured teas, pies, scones and petit fours. Dinner is where TongK ang Colonial Restaurant’s special Roast Wagon serving slow -cooked Oven Roasted Black Angus Prime Rib takes centre stage. Meat Lovers will have their carnivorous cravings satisfied by the Roast Wagon, which also presents fine accompaniments of Yorkshire Pudding and roasted greens at a single price. The restaurant’s Ala Carte menu showcases a selection of colonial-inspired dishes such as Mulligatawny soup - a hallmark of Anglo-Indian cuisine, Hainanese Kurobuta Pork Rack and delectable desserts such as the Granny Smith Apple Tart and classic Bread and Butter Pudding.
