Proverbs is Wisdom Literature

  • Wisdom Literature describes a way of

living a life - a way of understanding the world.

  • Wisdom seeks to understand the world in

physical and social environments and is practical not philosophical. It is reflective, rational, and concerned with truth and knowledge.

  • Wisdom is concerned with choosing the

Prudent

  • The word prudent or prudence in Proverbs comes

from five different Hebrew words: biyn, aram, aruwm, sakal, and ormah. These words are synonyms that refer to various key traits of a prudent man - cunning, smart, sensible, circumspect, and able to discern between options.

  • Proverbs 22:3 The prudent sees the evil and

hides himself, But the simple go on, and are punished for it.

  • Wisdom not same as Prudent - Proverbs 8:12

I, wisdom, dwell with prudence - I find knowledge and discretion. 13 but the fear of the LORD is to hate evil; Pride and arrogance and the evil way And the perverted mouth, I hate.
