 Please list the most valuable learning outcomes that you have gained from your graduate program thus far.

 Working towards my masters  I have begun holding my students to a higher level.  Research based work  Refresher of information related to economics, accounting and finance  Being diverse with teaching strategies  Content knowledge  Persistence  How to conduct an online class  New knowledge  Historical knowledge that helps with teaching my history classes  Review of info I learned in my undergrad education  I have increased my knowledge in mathematics at the graduate level  Flexible with the Workload--Pacing Yourself to Complete Coursework on Time  Review of content (Calculus)  Knowledge of subject material  How to recognize persuasive speech techniques  The student will develop complex reading, writing, and research skills.  More knowledge in differing content areas  Increased knowledge of my content  The flow of science curriculum from middle school into early college years.  Research writing  Additional knowledge  Expanding my reading  Financial accounting procedures  How students will feel taking a distance learning class  I have learned how to manage an on-line class and use more technology.  Research is essential.  Experience in online research (databases, archives, etc.)  Networking  I instruct with far more precise language.  Willingness to accept change  Networking with other professions  Scheduling every free second of my time  Understand the content on a deeper level  Practice writing papers again  Contacts with other science teachers outside of my district  Very Detailed Expectations and Requirements Given  New methods to use in the classroom  Higher level of discussions of literature  How to conduct field research  The students will develop electronic media skills.  Better view of how a college course is structured  Time management  Professional contacts  Exposed me to more theory  Business plan creation  How to be able to teach the students to time manage  I have learned more about research skills and writing.  Organizing and time management needs to be taught at all levels (even to my high school students).  More background in contemporary literature  New relationships  Integrating Common Core  Professional development

 To be clear and timely with all of my online lessons and assignments for my future students  Activities to implement in my own classroom  Professors providing Guided Notes---Second Chances Given  New perspectives on topics that I have taught previously  Higher standards for writing  How to participate in online learning  The students will gain a deeper knowledge of a variety of texts, including multiple genres, in order to gain a broader understanding of the periods and movements in literature.  Ability to relate to my students and the workload they are balancing  Analysis skills  Improved my writing  Marketing plan creation  Remembering the level at which a college asks you to perform, which is what we will be expecting the students to do in class if they are to receive college credit for the class  I have learned research and literary skills to pass on to my students.  It is important to be able to argue your point at the graduate level not just inform.  Depth in my own writing abilities

How do you think that your current or anticipated graduate coursework will benefit your students?

 I think that by having a deeper understanding of higher level mathematics I will be better able to design a rigorous curriculum that will help my students be better prepared for a college curriculum.  Wider awareness of work and different assignments and topics  I have been able to gather updated information related to my content area to stay abreast of the trends that exist.  It will enable students the opportunity to enroll in college credit plus courses at their high school. The students will be provided with quality instruction allowing them to achieve at higher levels preparing them for the work force or college entrance.  Increased knowledge of subject matter. 

  • Immensely. The expansion I am receiving within English literature will help broaden my lesson planning and

content I deliver to my students.  Many new ideas on teaching literary theory  I can give them a bigger picture to think about when talking about difficult subjects, and understand the interactions on a deeper level.  It is/will give me more in depth knowledge to make my teaching better and will allow us to offer more courses to students in our district who wish to gain college credit in a high school setting  Technology Driven--Meeting Deadlines---You determine your grade based on completing assigned assignments. You know before the class starts what the professor requires from you to complete coursework.  It will help me to teach mathematics even better. Lots of review and more topics are being covered that I was weak on and had forgotten.  The knowledge I've gained from the coursework will enhance my teaching.  I can offer college credit.  Some of the texts are appropriate to teach at the high school level. The writing skills presented in the beginning research class are invaluable to teaching Composition classes.  It will open up the areas of discussion immensely and allow me to teach higher level classes that aren't currently

  • ffered.

 I have a gained a better understanding of how science curriculum builds from middle school into college and how some curriculum loops.  It will help with writing and analysis. Also I have been introduced to a wide variety of literature, which could help me give them a more varied reading list.  Additional opportunities to earn college credit while still in high school. I also have a better understanding of how they balance school and homework now.  I will impart the knowledge that I gain to my students.  I think my students will benefit from my updated knowledge of writing and research skills and the insights I have gained into world and American literature and authors.  I have learned so much about researching and writing from this program. I will definitely better prepare my students for college writing.  It's brought me up-to-date on research in the digital world. I'm also more comfortable with blended learning.

How do you think that your current or anticipated graduate coursework will improve your teaching practice?

 Improve grading scales and rubrics  These experiences have allowed me to feel positive about areas of instruction that I was feeling deficient in.  It will prepare me to challenge students in order for them to reach their educational goals. It is preparing me to incorporate Common Core standards into their daily lesson plans in all areas. 

  • Highly. I am learning new formats to deliver and evaluate course work.

 More in-depth knowledge of literature  After evaluating my professors, I see traits that I would like to work on, and activities that I think that would be beneficial in my classroom. When an idea/topic can be learned online in a helpful way, that should be easily translated into the physical classroom.  Discuss experiences and opportunities given in order to compete coursework.  New methods and insights, new use of technology  I've been exposed to new pieces of literature, plus fine-tuned the pieces with extensive research and classroom discussions and analysis.  My graduate coursework has already benefited my students with the adding online component I have implemented for submitting writing assignments. The literature focus will enhance my classes next year as I plan

  • n incorporated some of the works studied into my coursework.

 I will have more confidence in what I know and be better suited to create a curriculum with a college appropriate rigor.  Deeper understanding of curriculum connections.  I hope to be more understanding about time management and organization.  There will be more knowledge and life experiences to share with my students.  I have become a better reader of students' writing and feel more capable of giving meaningful feedback to them. I teach with more knowledge of writing and literature now.  I will look more diligently for different reading passages instead of teaching the same ones over and over again. I will ask students to make arguments in their writing more than just informing in their writing. I will also try and increase the amount of research I do before teaching a topic.  Seeing how my professors grade has already enhanced my own grading practices.

Is there any additional information or comments that you'd like to include that aren't covered by the above questions?

 The staff were very helpful and have gone above and beyond to help me with any questions I may have.  Thank you for providing the program. I am truly appreciative of the funds and the opportunity to take my program at the high school to the next level and offer it as dual enrollment (CCP).  The professors at The University of Akron have been great to work with up to this point. I like that there is the flexibility to work on-line at my convenience, and I do not have to travel to campus.  I have really enjoyed the experience of online learning, while raising a young family and teaching full-time. With the program lasting 15 months, it is intense, but do-able. I'm glad that it was partially paid for, and that they found in-state institutions to create these programs.  I am grateful for this opportunity to better my craft.  In the long run, I am glad that the ODU program is so challenging and that I've been encouraged to take on a thesis.
