PHS RECOMMENDED CURRICULUM A-G REQUIREMENTS A – History 1 year of World History and 1 year of U.S. History B – English 4 years of college prep English C – Math 3 years of college prep math (Integ Math 1a-1b, Integ Math 2a-2b, Integ Math 3a-3b) D – Science 2 years of laboratory science (Biological and Physical) E – World Language 2 years of the same language F – Visual or Performing Arts 1 year of the same discipline (Visual Art, Theatre, Music) G – College Prep Elective 1 year chosen from the “a - f” courses beyond those used to satisfy the requirements above, or courses that have been approved solely in the elective area *Must pass all classes with a grade of a “ C ” or better

  5. FACTS ABOUT PHS TRIMESTER SYSTEM • Two Trimesters = 1 year’s worth of coursework • Earn 75 credits a year to accelerate • More electives! More academic electives make you a more competitive applicant for college • Flexibility in schedule • Students take 4 or 5 classes a day, three trimesters per year. (approximately 70 min. class periods, 12 week trimesters) • Off Roll periods are possible

TIPS FOR CHOOSING CLASSES… • Make 15 total selections , including off-roll: Course Title Number of selections Spanish 1-2-3 3 selections Draw/Paint 1 1 selection Biology 1-2 2 selections Off-Roll period 5, Tri 1 1 selection • Enter by COURSE number as listed on the Course Request Form. Do not search by title • For two part courses, (Integrated Math 1a -1b) or three part courses (Spanish 1-2-3) be sure to enter ALL course numbers

HELPFUL TIPS • For English, Math, Science and World Language placement, speak with your current teachers and have them recommend the course you should take in 9 th grade. • Read the course descriptions carefully for electives. Course Catalog and other resources can be found on PHS website. • Electives – Enter 1 st choice(s) as part of your 15 classes online. Indicate your alternate choices on CRF by circling and numbering them in order of preference. You will also be able to enter and rank alternates online.

  15. HOW TO THRIVE… • Select classes with YOUR strengths in mind. • Consider all of your activities (sports, extracurricular activities, etc). • Build a balanced schedule. Don’t forget you need to SLEEP, spend time with family and friends, including taking care of your health. • Choose between 4 to 5 classes each trimester. • Academic habits matter: Time Management, Organization, Personal Responsibility, & Self Advocacy Develop and keep up these good habits to be prepared for the rigors of high school!
