LEARNING SUPPORT PROGRAMMES Learning Support Programme (LSP-EL) Aim: provides additional learning support to students in the English Language at the time they enter P1 Learning Support for Mathematics (LSM) Aim: provides additional learning support to students in Mathematics at the time they enter P1

SCHOOL-BASED DYSLEXIA REMEDIATION • Dyslexia intervention programme available in Kheng Cheng School (pilot school) • Screening process in P2 to identify students with dyslexia • Identified students go through school-based dyslexia remediation in P3 & P4 • Programme conducted in small groups by trained school personnel

STUDENT DEVELOPMENT – Form Teacher Guidance Period, Form Teacher Interaction – SLs, Year Heads, Discipline Master, Allied Educators (Teaching and Learning, Learning & Behavioural) & Senior School Counsellor meet regularly to look into the welfare of the students with learning, disciplinary & behavioural needs, such as: – ADHD – Dyslexia – Autism * If you require assistance, please contact your child’s Form Teacher & Mrs Sharon Wong (P1 Asst Year Head)

School Counselling @ KCS • Sometimes children and their families might need extra support if they are finding it difficult to manage their emotions, behaviour or relationships with peers , teachers or even parents • Counselling support for these children has many benefits, they include – Relief from ongoing feelings of distress (sadness, anger, worry, frustration) – Problem behaviours may be reduced or eliminated – Learning to identify and express feelings in healthy ways, which are often at the root of challenging behaviours – Discovering existing strengths from which improved self- esteem can be build upon – Improved school performance and peer relationships – Opportunity for strengthening of the parent-child relationship – Reduced stress in family communication and interactions

SUPPORT YOUR CHILD • Help your child establish a daily routine • Check your child’s daily homework • Check your child’s handbook. • If your child is expected to stay in school, a letter will be issued. • Emphasise the importance of education – the learning of all subjects (Build the foundation) • Reinforce the values taught in school • Communicate with teachers (Email, handbook, parents’ engagement platforms etc)

  37. HOME-SCHOOL PARTNERSHIP School Policies • Homework: (3 hours/week) • Attendance: Students are expected to produce an MC or a parent’s letter if they are absent from school. Parents are encouraged to call the school to inform the Form Teacher of your child’s absence, especially so if child has contacted infectious diseases such as HFMD, chicken pox. • Late Coming: All students must be in school by 7.30 am for the morning assembly.

HOME-SCHOOL PARTNERSHIP KCS Examinations Policy • In alignment to national examinations practices, there will be no re-sit for P2 to 6 students who are absent for Listening Comprehension and written papers in CA / SA / Prelim . For students who are absent from the oral component, teachers will make arrangements to test the students individually. The last day of the oral examination is the final day of the last written papers.

  39. HOME-SCHOOL PARTNERSHIP KCS Examinations Policy • For P1 – 4 bite-size tests, teachers will administer the test when students return. The last day of the retest is the seventh working day from the originally scheduled test date. For English Show & Tell and Poetry Recitation, teachers will administer the test when student returns. The last day of retest is one day after the last student in the class is tested.
