Ride Quality ty Ite tem 585

  • 1. Is Ride Quality required? YES / NO
  • 2. What Pay Adjustment Schedule is required? YES / NO
  • 3. What type of equipment (straightedge, profiler, etc.) will be used for

contractor quality control testing?

  • 4. Will a high speed or lightweight profiler be used for quality assurance

(QA) testing?

  • 5. Ensure that profiler and operator are certified and that certification is

current.

  • 6. The Contractor will notify TxDOT prior to beginning QA testing. (24 hours

notification preferred)

  • 7. Profile measurements must be submitted to the Engineer within 24

hours of completion and with an approved format specified in Test Method Tex-1001-S.

  • Surface Irregularities: If a pattern of surface irregularities is detected

(including, but not limited to, color, texture, roller marks, tears, uncoated aggregate particles, or segregation):

  • a. The Contractor shall make an investigation into the cause or causes

and immediately take the necessary corrective action.

  • b. Placement may continue for no more than (1) day of production from

the time the Contractor is first notified and while corrective actions are being taken.

  • c. If no corrective action is taken or if the problem exists after (1) day,

paving shall cease until the Contractor further investigates the causes and the Engineer approves further corrective action.

  • d. Remove & Replace, at the Contractor’s expense, any mixture that does

not bond or has surface irregularities.
