COVID-19 Health and Safety

Ongoing planning for Return to School/Re-entry into CCS Buildings:

• Relied on the Lighting Our Way Forward guidebook and StrongSchoolsNC

Public Health Toolkit (K-12) guidance to create our district's required Plans A/B/C

• Established 8 District Workgroups (Athletics/Band, Building Protocols,

Human Resource Protocols, Instructional Delivery, KIDS:PLUS, School Nutrition, Transportation, Whole Child Supports) to carry out the planning requirements for developing Plans A/B/C

• Team members from Cabarrus Health Alliance/Cabarrus County Schools/

Kannapolis City Schools ("CHACK") met regularly to create health and safety protocols for each workgroup

COVID-19 Health and Safety

Communication and Support Planning:

• Cabinet and Senior Leadership members met on an ongoing basis to

problem-solve barriers around the plans and offer support for implementation

• Both physical and psychological safety measures were included
• Information was shared with staff, students, parents, and community
• Staff from Risk Management and Communications participated

across workgroups and created guidance for families (see One Strong Start Family Guide for Plan C) and employees (see One Strong Start Employees Guide)

Student Safety & Well-being

School Safety Drills

• In Plan B, student drills will be conducted on A/B/C days so all students will have

practice School Safety Checks (middle & high schools):

• In Plan B, randomized metal detector/bookbag checks will be conducted on

A/B/C days Say Something – Anonymous Reporting System (SS-ARS) (middle & high schools)

• Students and staff will continue to be trained in and can use the SS-ARS Tip line

for reporting and responding to safety concerns In partnership with Student Services, Administrative Services, and Curriculum & Instruction, staff are delivering social-emotional learning lessons and utilizing resiliency-focused approaches in addressing the mental health of students.

Plan C:

• Provided training and guidance to staff for sanitizing/cleaning
• Issued necessary PPE, sanitizing/cleaning supplies, and associated

equipment for staff to return

• Continuing to prepare facilities for students return

Issued to date:

• 193,500 cloth face coverings
• 67,500 disposable face coverings
• 707 gallons of hand sanitizer
• 137,000 pairs of gloves
• 1,920 containers of wipes
• 600 thermometers
• 44 dumpcarts (trash removal)

• FMD will provide all school sites with necessary PPE

items and equipment

• FMD has distributed the allotted five mask per

staff/student and school nurse supplies according to the N.C. guidelines

KIDS:PLUS Program

• Operational plan for providing full day childcare in a limited

capacity for families during Plan C

• Operating with reduced ratios (1:10) and serve children

enrolled in CCS who are between the ages of 5-9 years old

• 230 children registered to attend our Plan C Care Sessions

were welcomed back on Monday, Aug. 17

• 8 locations open and staffed to provide this care

Facilities Maintenance (FMD)

Budget list items completed including:

• Fire alarm system upgrade at Northwest Cabarrus High and

Concord High are in progress

• Repaired driveways and restriped parking lots
• Applied 15,860 gallons of floor wax in all buildings

School Nutrition

• Serving meals at 18 school sites and 10 mobile routes with
• ver 80 stops
• USDA recently extended waiver to feed all children ages 1-

18 through December 31, 2020.

• Applications for free or reduced-price meals processed for

7,000+ students as of September 1, 2020

• Distributed 28,819 student devices for the 2020-21 school year
• Repaired and redeployed 976 damaged/non-functioning Chromebooks

from the spring deployment

• Distributed 272 individual student hotspots
• Continue to support staff working remotely and onsite
