CADRE Curriculum and Degree Requirements Committee Description: Governance Committee that reviews and recommends final approval of all new academic programs and changes to existing programs; to recommend for approval all new courses and changes in course numbers, titles, descriptions, credit hours, and prerequisites; to review and recommend policies and procedures for the development of degree requirements for all college credit programs. 2

Curriculum Revision Process: Regular Cycle of Review & Update Implement E-mail • Curriculum Review Plans: changes Notification Access via My Tri-C Space, Faculty Tab, Teaching, Curriculum and Assessment Resources Tab, Curriculum Review & Review Plans Link Plan Determine Assessments needed changes Submit & get updates approved Curriculum Review Plan • All plans reside on the Curriculum and Assessment Kweb site located at: • https://kweb.tri- c.edu/curriculum/Lists/Curriculum%20Review%20Plans/Allitemsg.aspx under Lists/Curriculum Review Plans. • The plans can be easily accessed via My Tri-C Space • Faculty Tab • Teaching, Curriculum and Assessment Resources Tab • Curriculum Review Plans Link. Once you have accessed the master list of Curriculum Review plans, Click the subject area dropdown menu and select the desired discipline. 10 5

Curriculum Review Plan • Living document that is reviewed and updated annually by faculty counterparts. • Documents the current status of all the courses in the discipline/program. • Documents the plan to review and update according to an established cycle. • Decisions on the year to review, who will update and the general education outcomes as well as additional notes are recorded electronically. 11 Where we were… As of 8/1/2017: • 1,036 = were last updated prior to 2014 Of the 1,036: • 683 = were last updated prior to August 2010 Of the 683: • 184 = were last updated in 1998 6

Where we are headed… As of 1/2/2018: • Review Checklist:  Active or archive? • 715 courses remain outdated  Course Description  ELO Mapping/Assessments  Course outcomes and objectives  Course Content  Resources  Pre-reqs  Potential impact Reviewing & Updating Curriculum • Course Description - verify that it still accurately describes course/update any terminology as appropriate • Essential Learning Outcomes - The College’s Institutional Outcomes • Determine if it is appropriate to map the course to an Essential Learning Outcome (discuss with counterparts - CLOA to provide more detail on ELOs) • Course Outcomes & Objectives • If last update was prior to 2005, course outcomes will need to be developed • Update terminology as appropriate • Update to reflect any changes in the industry/accreditation standards • Update to reflect any changes in how course is being taught • Update to use measurable language (avoid understand/appreciate) 7

Reviewing & Updating Curriculum • Course Content • Update to include sufficient detail to ensure consistency of instruction • Update to reflect changes in industry/accreditation • Update to reflect changes in terminology • Prerequisites • Includes prerequisite that ensure student success – consider what level of math, English, science or technical coursework students should have mastered prior to enrolling in the course. Where do I find course outlines? • To revise an existing course outline, or to view historical/pending course outlines, Full-time Faculty can log in to CurricUNET at http://tric.curricunet.com. • To view or print active course outlines/program reports without logging in to CurricUNET, go to http://www.tri-c.edu/student-resources/curriculum/. This is on the public website and is accessible for students and adjunct faculty to view and print course outlines/program reports as well. • Quarter course outlines are available on the Curriculum KWeb site located at https://kweb.tri- c.edu/curriculum/Course%20Outlines%20%20Quarter%20System/Forms/AllItems.aspx or they can be obtained by contacting the Curriculum Office. 17 Curriculum Toolkit in Blackboard • Includes resources, videos, & learning activities around developing curriculum • How to self-enroll: • Log-in to Blackboard via My Tri-C Space • Select Courses Tab within Blackboard • Enter “Curriculum” into Course Search box • Select the [SE] Curriculum Tool Kit site • Right Click, select enroll. • Enter password toolkit (all lower case) This will add the toolkit to your dashboard so it will appear in your My Courses list when you login to blackboard. 18 9

CADRE 2017-18 Special CHARGES • Examine the current curriculum deadlines to determine potential changes to support publication of the online catalog in April, when Fall registration opens. • Examine the transfer module issues caused by moving the History courses from Social Sciences to Humanities in the 2012 degree requirements change and determine if some or all of the History courses need to be moved back under Social Sciences. College-wide CADRE ROLES • Participates in orientation and/or training regarding the role of CADRE, curriculum development and review, outcomes, and any related curriculum subject area. • Encourages the development of new courses and programs. • Provides leadership in curriculum areas. • Reviews and recommends any academic programs and additions and deletions to existing programs. • Reviews and recommends new courses and course revisions (i.e. changes in course numbers, titles, descriptions, essential learning and course outcomes and supporting objectives, course content, credit hours, and prerequisites). 12
