Aim

 Is obesity-related AF a problem in the Midland region?  Does the AF burden (reflected by demand on clinical services)

differ between obese and non-obese patients?

Methods

Our patient cohort:

 Waikato DHB facilities  1 July 2013 – 31 March 2016  Discharge code ‘AF’ from ED or Cardiology  Echocardiogram within 6 months

BMI ≥ 27 = Group 1 BMI < 27 = Group 2

Conclusion

 Obesity is not uncommon in AF patients.  Significant age difference.  Limited BMI data.  Worth further investigation.

Where to from here?

 Improve BMI data collection.  Larger, prospective study.  Weight-loss intervention.
