W hy are w e replacing Parnall Elem entary w ith a new building? W hy not just renovate the building?

  • Structure is inefficient and many utilities are not repairable, requiring

replacement (water lines, ductwork)

  • A renovation to address size and code issues is projected to cost 8 0 % of a

new building

  • Significant size / capacity issues ( 3 0 % undersized) requiring additional

classrooms and enlarging existing classrooms

  • Significant issues accommodating building for students w ith disabilities and

code requirements

  • A new building addresses all of the these issues AND gives flexibility and layout

to accommodate modern teaching styles and learning environments

  • A new building reduces maintenance costs, resource needs, and provides

significant increases in energy efficiency, air quality, and learning environment

slide-11

Parnall Elem entary

Expand/ Renovate

$11,700,000

NEW

$14,853,000

Based on all the inform ation above, com m unity input indicated m ost logical and responsible decision is to build a new elem entary to replace Parnall Elem entary.

New Elem entary: $ 1 4 ,8 5 3 ,0 0 0 New Secure Entry Approximately 80,000 square feet Capacity for 650 Students PK-2 Grade Level State of the Art 21st Century School

Demolish the Existing Building $ 2 5 5 ,0 0 0 Restore the Site for Community Athletic Use

New Elem entary Benefits

  • New Secure Main Entry
  • Larger classrooms vs. Parnall (900 vs. 800 SF) better for

multiple learning styles that are technology-rich

  • Energy efficiency (better insulation, less infiltration). There

are currently 26 individual furnaces and water heaters that are very old and very high maintenance.

  • New mechanical / electrical systems
  • NEW building plans to be designed with community input
  • Better opportunity for more effective utilization of natural

lighting: further energy efficiency & improved learning environment
