  2. Attacking the Drug Epidemic The Problem • Since 2008, over 11,000 Hoosiers have died of a drug overdose. More than 4,600 deaths were from opioids. • Drug Overdose Deaths in Indiana have become the number 1 cause of accidental/intentional death. • More than 10 state agencies and hundreds of local entities work directly to address the opioid crisis. Coordination of these efforts is a challenge. • Data is often isolated and utilized only within the agency collecting it. Solutions • Understanding the problem from a state level using data & analytics. • Creation of Drug Data Working Group to increase the use and sharing of data among agencies. • Increasing the quality and use of data in determining where to locate resources, evaluate effectiveness of initiatives and drive policy decisions. - 2 -
