What? When?

What are the media you're consuming (or creating)? For example, are you watching a movie? Searching for videos on YouTube? Playing online games? What device(s) are you using to consume (or create) the media? When are you consuming (or creating) the media? What day of the week? What time of day? What else is happening at this time (e.g., during dinnertime, right after waking up in the morning, etc.)? How much are you consuming? How long did you spend consuming (or creating) the media? How often do you consume the media?

Here are some possible responses:

  • Connected: I feel connected to my friends and community.
  • Smart: I learn things that are important to my life.
  • In the know: I get information about events and new ideas or trends.
  • Unique: I can express myself through my participation online.
  • Stressed: I feel worried or hassled. I feel pressure to constantly check my

phone.

  • Insecure: I feel less confident or less important than other people.
  • Bummed: I feel bad because I spend too much time using media and I don’t

get to do other things (non-media activities like playing sports, hobbies, etc.).

  • Tired: I watched too much TV, gamed too much, or was on my phone late

and didn't get enough sleep.

What signs might show that your media choices are out of balance? What can you do to change the situation? c. What is one step you can take right now to be more media balanced? Write a concrete and actionable step you will
