The Challenge

Without knowledge of the reality of what one participates in, the participation cannot be as full, conscious, or fruitful as it should.

Collection of Materials

Exodus 25: 1-3:8 The LORD spoke to Moses: Speak to the Israelites: Let them receive contributions that their hearts prompt them to give me. These are the contributions you shall accept from them: gold, silver, and bronze; They are to make a sanctuary for me, that I may dwell in their midst.

Practical and Technical Knowledge is Not Enough

Built Of Living Stones tells us: “To be able to make specific recommendations about the building project, parish members need to understand the nature of the liturgy, the space it requires, and the ways in which the physical building can help or hinder worship” Built Of Living Stones warns us: “The fabric of the assembly may fray and even tear if we are not in union with God’s will”

slide-20
SLIDE 20

Lead Souls to God and Their Eternal Salvation

Personal Practice

1) Die to Self 2) Prayer and open our hearts to the Holy Spirit 3) Believe in the Paschal Mystery that Christ will continue to guide us, as he did on earth, through the Eucharist. 4) Know your faith first so your contributions are valid and not based on emotion and presuppositions. 5) We need to begin with theology and then create the

  • aesthetic. Art and architecture are a part of the rite, not

merely a neutral setting. 6) Sacramental signs make present and active the very reality they signify, and a sacramental building composed of sacramental signs does that. 7) We are to mediate heaven on earth, that enthuses (in God) those who attend, during their spiritual journey to eternity with God. 8) Through Collective Wisdom

Constantine the Great, the first Christian Emperor of Rome (A.D. 306-337), founded Constantinople, as a new capital of the Empire, on the site of the Greek city of Byzantium. This historical event was, later, in a great measure, responsible for (1) the division of European architecture into Romanesque and Byzantine, (2) the formation of two Churches, the Roman and Greek, and (3) the division of the Empire into the Western and Eastern Empires. Byzantine architecture maybe said to be Roman architecture (1) influenced by Asiatic feeling, (2) stimulated by the new faith of Christianity, and (3) modified by Greek thought which still prevailed, when Byzantine architecture was taking shape, in the Eastern Empire. Buildings in this style are characterized by, the round arch, the circle, and, above all, by the use of the dome. The chief glory, internally, of typical churches in this style is the wonderful display

  • f precious marbles and mosaics.

Much of Byzantine architecture was created to express religious experience and mediate between the believer and God.

A Marian Church With Choirs of Angels

ANGEL CHOIRS

3rd Shpere, 9th Choir – Angels – messengers - Guardian angels are members of this choir, which is closest to humans. They protect, guide, and pray for people in all aspects of human life. 3rd Sphere, 8th Choir – Archangels - The meaning of this choir’s name is distinct from the other use of the word “archangels.” 3rd Sphere, 7th Choir – Principalities - Principalities focus on encouraging people to pray, educating people in the arts and sciences, giving people creative ideas, and helping national leaders throughout the world govern wisely. 2nd Sphere, 6th Choir – Powers - The powers derive their name from the fact that God has given them great spiritual power to use in the fight between good and evil in the spiritual realm. 2nd Sphere, 5th Choir – Virtues - When people are facing significant needs or going through challenging crises, virtue angels may show up to give them the comfort, inspiration and courage they need to deal with the situation well -- and in the process, strengthen people's faith in God. 2nd Sphere, 4th Choir – Dominions - Dominions focus on carrying out God's judgments with mercy, delivering wisdom to world leaders, regulating the order God has established for the universe, and supervising the duties of the lower ranks of angels. 1st Sphere, 3rd Choir – Thrones - Throne angels constantly reflect on God's will and the wisdom of the purposes behind it. 1st Sphere, 2nd Choir – Cherubim - Cherubim focus on guarding God's glory in heaven, keeping records of everything that happens in the universe, and delivering God's mercy to people to help them overcome sin and connect to a holy God. 1st Sphere, 1st Choir – Seraphim - The word "seraphim" is derived from the Hebrew word saraph, which means "to burn."

When our crucifix was commissioned, the artist, John Collier, gave it the title “The Tree of Life.” I want to expand the Tree of Life theme to the rose windows on the north and south sides of the building. These two windows will be the Alpha and the Omega windows, highlighting Christ’s role as the Alpha and the Omega, the beginning and the end. As a whole, the three images, speak to Christ’s central and ever-present importance in the past, the present and the future: ALPHA WINDOW Genesis 2:8-9:

Tree of Life in the Garden of Eden.

OMEGA WINDOW Revelation 22:1-2

Then the angel showed me the river of life-giving water, sparkling like crystal, flowing from the throne of God and of the Lamb down the middle of its street. On either side of the river grew the tree of life that produces fruit twelve times a year, once each month; the leaves of the trees serve as medicine for the nations.
