WHY CSR? • The Companies ACT 2013, passed by the Government of India and in effect since 1st April, 2014 defines the CSR Law. According, to Section 135 and Schedule VII of the Companies Act, CSR Law is applicable on companies with the following threshold limit. a) Net worth of the company to be INR 500 crore or more; b) T urnover of the company to be INR 1000 crore or more; c) Net profit of the company to be INR 5 crore or more • The companies have to spend 2% of their Net Profits in CSR activities. Estimates indicate that CSR commitments from companies can amount to as much as INR 20,000 crores. India ranks 117 th in 128 countries on Sustainable Development Goals as ranked by United Nations. The knowledge about the subject is confined in India Inc. • 3
