RESULTS

The elderly valued their transfer of

ROLES OF THE ELDERLY

 The elderly are rich in experience and local

wisdom “As we have long life, we have much knowledge, and if we don’t transfer it to others it will disappear or die with us…”

 The elderly as a role model

“We are elderly people, and the important role

for us is to be a role model and instruct the younger generation in many ways of life…”

slide-12
SLIDE 12

INHERITANCE OF LOCAL WISDOM

Local wisdom should be preserved and transferred to the new generation

“I’ve learned from my parents, so I wish our

local wisdom to stay alive forever through us.”

slide-13
SLIDE 13

INCREASE OF SELF-VALUE

“I know that I’m skillful in cotton weaving,

I learned it by myself. If I could teach just

  • ne or two people to do it, it would be great.”

“I’m not rich. I’m not educated. This project

makes me feel good and valuable late in my life when many people come to learn from me.”

I’m so proud of myself, many people come to

learn from me, interview me and some take photos of me…”

GOOD RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN

THE ELDERLY AND YOUTH

“ Many children are interested in doing things with me. They join my activities with fun. They also make me happy.” “ They (the children) come with their lunch boxes and eat with me. During my time here, I have enjoyed being with them very much. Otherwise, I would stay alone at home…”

The elderly revealed that being

a part of this project had physical, mental and social benefits such as active aging and longevity

CONCLUSION

The findings show a variety of

meanings that come from the

  • lder participants themselves

Regarding this, any project that

runs in a community must serve the needs and values of the target population, and also link engagement with health in a meaningful occupation
