  1. Live Streaming In the Parish of Holy Rosary & St. Kilian, Greystones

  2. Background to this project  The PPC has a plan for the future which includes the following areas for development:  Communication  Faith  Worship  Support and  Outreach

  3. Background to this project  Popes’ challenge to us – The Popes, from Pope John Paul II, Pope Benedict and indeed Pope Francis have accepted, incorporated and continue to encourage Internet use as an invaluable tool for communication, evangelisation and teaching.  "The internet, in particular, offers immense possibilities for encounter and solidarity," Pope Francis said. "This is something truly good, a gift from God."  "The digital world can be an environment rich in humanity," Francis wrote. "A network not of wires but of people."

  4. Background to this project  Web Team  The web is an important communication medium that provides a new missionary challenge. Our hope right from the start is that our website will portray a friendly, inclusive, and welcoming window to our Catholic community.

  5. Bringing Us To Today…  Our parish website is now live for 3 years, since Oct 2011  Extensive research has been ongoing for 18 months on the next phase of website projects  One recommendation to the PPC was to provide the Live Streaming of Parish Liturgies as part of the parish plan on Evangelisation and Outreach

  6. Bringing Us To Today…  Meetings with and information for parishioners and those in ministry  Through the information sheet, notice boards and website  Meetings with groups/individuals  Open meetings including this evening’s session  Creating opportunities for discussion and questions  Ensuring people are informed

  7. What is Live Streaming?  To Live Stream is to  transmit or receive live video and audio coverage (of an event) over the Internet  This means that using a web camera - picture and sound can be transmitted and accessed through a specific website

  8. What is Live Streaming?  The aim in this parish is to transmit our parish liturgies live to anyone with Internet access  This will be done through our parish website – www.greystonesparish.ie

  9. What Will Be Streamed?  This means that our parish liturgies in Holy Rosary Church will be available for people to see via our website  This is to include as norm the daily and weekend Masses and other parish liturgies e.g. Taizé prayer evenings / choral evenings etc.  Liturgies for particular Sacramental moments e.g. First Communion, Funeral will be by arrangement

  10. Why?  In the spirit of Evangelisation and Outreach as outlined by the PPC, this initiative will  bring the liturgies to those who cannot be present in our church  bring the Word of God beyond the physical walls of the church and  extend that spiritual network of people within our parish community

  11. Who Might Avail of This Outreach Service?  This would particularly be of benefit to  You and your family – if you are unable to attend a HR Church liturgy for some reason  nursing homes  the housebound & their carers  the sick  “time poor” people

  12. Who Might Avail of This Outreach Service?  This would particularly be of benefit to  people who may be unable to attend regularly  a parent of very young children  shift workers  family members or friends living away from the Greystones community who may wish to remotely attend funerals, weddings, baptisms or other liturgies (by arrangement)

  13. Who Might Avail of This Outreach Service?  The intention is to have a facility available that can offer us opportunities in other ways  Offer us other possibilities for outreach – yet to be imagined and to evolve  Let’s think and dream the opportunities possible

  14. What Is Involved?  Installation of  one camera placed on the gallery,  pressure mats in altar sanctuary area and  a control box in the sacristy  As per the Diocesan guidelines, equipment will be installed with due care and respect for church buildings

  15. What Is Involved?  Following installation there will be a few weeks of  Testing of the system and equipment on a private site  This is to test and adjust the sound and vision quality so people watching can engage effectively but without it being intrusive to those in the church  When testing is complete it is integrated on our website  Aim for a ”Go Live” date as soon as possible

  16. What Will It Look Like?  The images relayed will be similar to that on the overflow TV into the hall in KHFC  During Liturgical services, there will be 4 views relayed to those watching to provide a more engaging experience of the Liturgy  “Artists impression” of 4 possible views  Subject to adjustment when system is installed

  17. What Will It Look Like?  Four possible views include  A wide view incorporating the altar area of the sanctuary  The exact position subject to testing phase  Aim for from the altar rails to the back wall, curve of the apse from left to right

  18. What Will It Look Like?  There will be a focused view of the ambo, altar and chair area of the sanctuary to allow the viewer to better engage  All views are in line with Diocesan guidelines

  19. How Will It Work?  Wide view image available when Liturgy begins  Wide view will be the standard  Focused views occur automatically for a defined period when people stand at ambo, altar or chair area  When people leave these areas or following a defined time period, wide view is relayed again  System is inactive between liturgies

  20. Information  As per Diocesan guidelines appropriate visible notification within the Church will be available informing people that web cameras are in operation for Parish Liturgies  entry points, notice boards and on Information Sheet  announcement that liturgy is being streamed and available to those at home and welcoming them  Our set of guidelines for the provision of Live Streaming of Liturgies within the parish will be available which is based on the Diocesan guidelines

  21. Information  Visiting priests and speakers made aware that as part of our parish Evangelisation and Outreach all parish liturgies are transmitted as norm  Information to groups and schools so they can incorporate details into their policies  Safeguarding Procedures  Louise Fenelon 087-2252527 and Liam Mc Cabe 086-0230233

  22. Information  People who cannot attend a parish liturgy may now be part of that experience and our communal celebrations  Parishioners who use the altar and ambo areas of the sanctuary

  23. Information  It will NOT affect people as they come to pray in private  It will NOT be streaming when there is no parish liturgy  In general, public will not be seen unless within the apse/altar area of the sanctuary  Camera will not be intrusive – do you notice the CCTV cameras?

  24. How Available Will It Be and When?  The Live Streaming of Liturgies would be available to anyone with Internet broadband access through a laptop, PC, smart TV, Smart phone or tablet or any other internet enabled device  The norm will be to stream daily and weekend parish liturgies as standard - there may be exceptions  Other liturgies can be streamed by arrangement  Aim to give a welcoming window to our Catholic community through our parish website

  25. How Available Will It Be and When?  When liturgies are in progress it will live stream the liturgy using the webcam and the parish website  It is controlled through a system in the sacristy  In emergencies it can be turned off

  26. Opportunity  Never missing out – power to you VIEW

  27. Questions  Thank you for attending, participating and listening  Thank you to all who helped with this evening  Bring this news to others  Embrace the experience  And finally…

  28. And Finally…  One more small initiative  Advent calendar: www.greystonesparish.ie/2014/10/advent-calendar/
